Dale is an artist of varied influences, beginning with his roots in high school jazz and marching bands, listening to Motown and soul, and including his love for rock guitar.Through all of these influences, Dale has forged a musical style that is all his own.
On his first CD, “MindWinder” (1995), Dale delivered new and exciting arrangements, which bring to mind the innovative horns of Blood Sweat and Tears, the vocal intensity of Melissa Etheridge and the guitar gymnastics of Van Halen. He successfully brought those elements into the 1990’s with an artistic style encompassing musical genres ranging from big band swing music, to hard-hitting guitar riffs. The Dale Head “MindWinder” CD also showcases Dale’s three-octave vocal range and features his unique style of scat singing inspired by such greats as Ella Fitzgerald and Al Jarreau.
After many years of performing, during which he also learned to fly and become an aerial firefighting pilot, Dale returned to the studio in 2014 to record his 2015 release, “Swing, Straight Up”; a full-length big band album that captures several favorites from the Great American Songbook and some new songs arranged in a classic style. Three of the songs from “Swing, Straight Up” were “In Consideration” to be included in the 2016 GRAMMY nomination process.
Dale is hard at work on his next album, “Swing On the Rocks” - a big band album of great classic rock and pop songs orchestrated for big band in a high powered and innovative approach by none other than arranger Rick Walsh (The Producers, Metallica & the SF Symphony, Linda Ronstadt). “Swing On the Rocks” is slated for release in early 2017.
Currently, Dale Head brings his high energy and smooth vocals singing jazz, blues and the Great American Songbook to the stage with a troupe of top-notch musicians in a big band format. With a natural command of the swing and big band genre, Dale sings, plays trumpet and leads his talented group of players through a dynamic ride.
